TBW Statement Opposing the Consumer Product Safety Commission Improvement Act

There is little more important than keeping children safe. However, The Babywearer is gravely concerned about the impact of the pending Consumer Product Safety Commission Improvement Act. We believe that if this Act is enforced, there will be serious economic consequences on the child/baby product industry, and specifically to manufacturers of baby carriers. The Act would require ALL manufacturers - including small business owners who sew their products by hand and artisans who sell to help support their art - to submit each piece of their product for cost-prohibitive government-approved testing. Each component - buttons, threads, fabrics, padding, etc. would need to be tested independently for lead content. The cost and extent of this lead testing would be impossible for any small business to afford. Thousands of small businesses will be forced to close. Consumers will have fewer products to choose from. In the baby carrier world, the only products that will remain will be ones those that are manufactured en masse - and are widely considered inferior to those made in smaller quantities.The date that CPSIA is set to be enforced has already earned a nickname by many experts: "National Bankruptcy Day." Oh my...you all know by now that as it stands little Bundleboo is struggling because of the standing economy... I believe in us and know that with more blood, sweat and tears we can become something substantial. We have more in our plans than just personal gain...but to get there we have to get out of the red first. This bill will make it impossible for us.

Don't get me wrong I am all about safety...and Bundleboo has it in our sights to get formal testing done on our carriers. However as a small WHAM business we have to do things in small strides in order to keep our heads above water. This will bury us... Bundleboo will no longer exist. And many other small child product business will also fail... this will effect anyone producing children's products...including that WAHM selling her beautiful handmade chidrens goodies on ETSY.

What is your take???... will you help by writing your congressman and speaking up for the little people...small businesses run this country.

Finally got to go thru the kids clothes today and bag up the out-grown stuff. They grew like Chia-pets this past year...and their fat little faces stretched out to look like little people.

I know, I know... I say it all the time, but I cannot believe how fast they are growing up!

I don't like to follow instructions haven't learned how to read patterns yet... so I tried to improvise yesterday with some fabric I had laying around my work room/disaster area.... I'm not sure If I like it... I may do some more changes to it before its finished.

It ties on and is open on the sides so that she can wear a long sleeved shirt and jeans underneath it.

Every night when Andy gets home the kids are soooo excited to see him. I really enjoy watching him play with them...although sometimes I have to look the other way.

Winter Wear-out!

So I have totally exhausted all ideas to help the kids to relieve the pent up energy that seems to accumulate during the colder months. When its warm we spend almost every waking moment outdoors...even with the playset in the back yard I don't the kids don't want to go out side.

So, fed up with the kids jumping off of the couches..I decided to make Max's room into an indoor gymboree by taking his mattress off of the bed and putting it on the floor... now I have a place to send them when they want to act like this...

Old Houses ~ Lucy is sitting up!

The house that we stayed in this weekend was over 200 years old. Soooooo cool...my aunt and uncle renovate historic houses into livable condition. The property backed up to into a bay wetland... the house has so much character. Old claw foot tubs...axe carved hardwood floors, fireplaces in every room, really creepy attic :)...sooo neat. I may have to take the entire family out this summer for a little New England R&R.

Back from New England~Grandma update

It was so nice to see my family this weekend...(my dads side of the family) Grandma got to hold the newest babies on Friday night when we got into town. That night she was re-intubated due to a new heart condition called Atrial Fibrillation her heart beat was above 200 bpm. Since then she has gotten far worse...and it looks like it will not be much longer until she see's the lord. She and my grandfather made the decision together today (although she has a breathing tube she can still communicate with her eyes) that she does not want to be on the respirator anymore. The liver cancer is severe and terminal, there are signs that her kidneys are going as well. Tomorrow they will take her off of the respirator and keep her comfortable with medications.

I decided that I would not go back and see her the second day we were there. I do not wish to have my last memories of her with tubes and wires coming off of her. My last memory of her was beautiful...of her holding Lucy and my new nephew Joey. I will post that picture as soon as I can.

Im out for the weekend :)

Going to see Grandma Landino this weekend... she's off the ventilator but still in the hospital. I will post when I get back. HUGS!!!!
